Approximate Set Union Via Approximate Randomization

چکیده
We develop an randomized approximation algorithm for the size of set union problem |A1 ∪ A2 ∪ ... ∪ Am|, which given a list of sets A1, ..., Am with approximate set size mi for Ai with mi ∈ ((1− βL)|Ai|, (1 + βR)|Ai|), and biased random generators with Prob(x = RandomElement(Ai)) ∈ [ 1−αL |Ai| , 1+αR |Ai| ] for each input set Ai and element x ∈ Ai, where i = 1, 2, ..., m. The approximation ratio for |A1∪A2∪ ...∪Am| is in the range [(1−ǫ)(1−αL)(1− βL), (1 + ǫ)(1 + αR)(1 + βR)] for any ǫ ∈ (0, 1), where αL, αR, βL, βR ∈ (0, 1). The complexity of the algorithm is measured by both time complexity, and round complexity. The algorithm is allowed to make multiple membership queries and get random elements from the input sets in one round. Our algorithm makes adaptive accesses to input sets with multiple rounds. Our algorithm gives an approximation scheme with O(m · (logm)) running time and O(logm) rounds, where m is the number of sets. Our algorithm can handle input sets that can generate random elements with bias, and its approximation ratio depends on the bias. Our algorithm gives a flexible tradeoff with time complexity O ( m ) and round complexity O (

Module approximate amenability of Banach algebras
In the present paper, the concepts of module (uniform) approximate amenability and contractibility of Banach algebras that are modules over another Banach algebra, are introduced. The general theory is developed and some hereditary properties are given. In analogy with the Banach algebraic approximate amenability, it is shown that module approximate amenability and contractibility are the same ...
متن کاملa New Approximate Solution Technique (Quantized Method) for Simultaneous Gas Solid Reactions
Simultaneous reactions between solids and gases are very important in the chemical and metallurgical processes. In the modeling, the chemical reaction and diffusion of gases must be considered. Therefore, a set of coupled partial differential equations is found. When the kinetic is a function of solid concentration, there is not any analytical solution for these equations. Therefore, numerical ...
متن کاملApproximate solution of the stochastic Volterra integral equations via expansion method
In this paper, we present an efficient method for determining the solution of the stochastic second kind Volterra integral equations (SVIE) by using the Taylor expansion method. This method transforms the SVIE to a linear stochastic ordinary differential equation which needs specified boundary conditions. For determining boundary conditions, we use the integration technique. This technique give...
متن کاملAmerican Options under Stochastic Volatility: Control Variates, Maturity Randomization & Multiscale Asymptotics
American put options are actively traded worldwide on exchanges, thus making their accurate and efficient pricing an important problem. As most financial markets exhibit randomly varying volatility, in this paper we introduce an approximation of American put prices under stochastic volatility models. We achieve this by using the maturity randomization method known as Canadization. The volatilit...
متن کاملA contribution to approximate analytical evaluation of Fourier series via an Applied Analysis standpoint; an application in turbulence spectrum of eddies
In the present paper, we shall attempt to make a contribution to approximate analytical evaluation of the harmonic decomposition of an arbitrary continuous function. The basic assumption is that the class of functions that we investigate here, except the verification of Dirichlet's principles, is concurrently able to be expanded in Taylor's representation, over a particular interval of their do...
